Sven Väth

From Successes, Defeats, Drugs and Ayurveda - DJ Legend Sven Väth

He is one of the greatest DJ's worldwide. The Hessian turntable artist has constantly reinvented himself with new ideas and concepts. Meanwhile 51-year Sven Väth has exchanged his wild, excessive party life for another, quieter way of life for the music. A review.

Sven Väth was born in 1964 as the second of three brothers. His parents had a disco in Neu-Isenburg, where he already hung up as a teenager. As early as 1982 he deejayed in Frankfurt in the Dorian Grey. Stylistically at that time he switched in between disco, soul and funk. In 1985 he then founded the OFF project. The single "Electrica Salsa" reached high chart positions throughout Europe. In 1988 Väth for a few months went to Ibiza. He felt the vibe of the island - open air clubs, scantily clad pretty girls, many hippies. This experience was a great inspiration for his future work for the 16-year-old at that time. Back in Frankfurt, along with Michael and Matthias Münzig Martinsohn he bought the "Vogue" - ground floor premises of a parking garage without proper air conditioning. They rebuilt and opened the "Omen". In summer 1990 the first techno wave reached Germany. DJ Sven Väth switched from acid to techno and provided the sound in his "living room", in the Omen, to thousands of enthusiastic ravers. His music career really took off. He founded the label Eye Q Records and Harthouse. In the late 90s Väth's label, however, went bankrupt. The world-DJ founded the party edition "Cocoon", which was a home in the Frankfurt club U60311, later in Stammheim in Kassel, in Tribehouse in Neuss and finally at Amnesia in Ibiza.

The party series flourished, soon the label and an associated booking agency were founded. In 2004 a new project hung in the air: The Cocoon Club in Frankfurt. Väth designed a previously in Germany unprecedented party location, with a new emphasis on the interior regarding the sound system and fresh accents on the gastronomy. The club was voted to the best techno club. In 2012 then Cocoon had to close after Väth went bankrupt.

Sven Väth nevertheless continues and keeps going. He plays gigs from Ibiza to Yokohama, from Frankfurt to Hollywood. Meanwhile on his tours he takes a personal trainer along. Sports, massage, sauna and the art of Ayurveda help him today, to meet the requirements of a DJ life. And for him now more than ever applies: "Music is my drug!"
